Reverence

"Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe," (Heb. 12:28).

Our position with God is so secure in Christ, that it cannot be shaken. Our position was purchased for us by the son of God who died on the cross and shed his blood for us. In Him we have redemption, the forgiveness of our sins. Therefore, in gratitude for what we have received in Christ, we are to serve the Lord with reverence and awe.

Our reverence is towards God. Reverence is proper honor, appreciation, and devotion to God. To be in awe means to be reverent, but also speaks of godly fear. Though we are safe in the arms of Christ, we should be awestruck at the majesty and perfection of God's holy character. Remember, God deals with sin appropriately and we receive the benefit of His work in the person of Christ.

Therefore, our reverence and awe are coupled with service. The word "service" in the Greek is latreuo which is also used to designate worship. in other words, we are to worship, to serve God, appropriately with reference and godly fear. We are not to take for granted opposition with Christ and become complacent in our emotional response to the work of the cross. He must always be mindful of the price of our redemption that emanated from an awesome God who calls us to serve him in truth.

Remember to pray when it rains as well as when the sun shines. Prayer and Meditation are very useful tools in growing our faith. Rain and sunshine are both needed for healthy gardens!

An excellent way to gain knowledge, wisdom and understanding is to read a chapter in Proverbs a day. Some read the chapter number according to the day of the month. For example: May 4th, Proverbs 4.

For by grace are ye (you) saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: ~Ephesians 2:8

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. ~1Timothy 6:12

"Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God; and whoever loves the Father loves the child born of Him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and observe His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome. For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith," (1 John 5: 1-4).
